Baroeg music venue, Rotterdam

Facade

Music venue Baroeg in Rotterdam features a facade with a reflective superstructure and a folded roof line that transitions into an entrance canopy at sharp, angled corners. Alucobond has been used for both components, custom-manufactured to the specific geometry of this building.

The challenge

The mirror panels in the superstructure are long and follow diagonal joints along the roofline. That combination left little room for deviation: any inaccuracy in length or angle would be immediately visible in the reflection. The entrance canopy, executed at sharp angles, also required precise production to keep the joints tight.

Execution

The panels are manufactured to a very high standard of precision, so everything aligned perfectly during installation. Alucobond with a mirror coating was chosen for the superstructure, while the canopies feature a dark, metallic finish that contrasts with the reflective panels above.

Material

  • Facade (largest part): Alucobond Natural Reflect 405
  • Canopies: Alucobond Dark Grey Metallic 505

Result

The final result gives the building a sleek, luxurious appearance, with sharp lines that are further emphasized by the mirror effect.

About the collaboration

Bijlbouw specializes in facade construction and works on projects where technology, detail, and aesthetics come together. We have enjoyed working together for years, precisely because we complement each other well in projects where customization and coordination are important. We have been working with Bijlbouw for years, featuring short lines of communication and pleasant coordination within the projects.

Regarding the collaboration on the Baroeg pop venue project in Rotterdam, Bijlbouw says:

During the bidding phase, we consulted with Plano Plastics on how to execute this project properly from a technical standpoint. The mirrored panels in particular presented a challenge. Based on that consultation, a suitable proposal was put together.

The entrance canopy in Alucobond, designed with oblique angles, was detailed by us and subsequently produced by Plano Plastics. The mirror panels in the superstructure, made of Alucobond with a mirror coating, also required a lot of attention. Due to the length of the panels in combination with the angled connections, this was technically not a simple component.

In close consultation, we further developed this together, after which Plano Plastics produced the panels with great precision. As a result, everything fit together exceptionally well during installation. The end result gives the building a luxurious appearance, which the client, municipality, and local residents are very enthusiastic about.”
