About PET-G
All About PET-GPET-G, short for polyethylene terephthalate glycol, is one of the transparent plastics, just like acrylic (Plexiglas) and polycarbonate (Lexan). PET-G is a modified version of PET, known from PET bottles: the added glycol makes the material more durable. It does not become brittle after long-term use and is heat-resistant up to 80 °C. It is also resistant to various chemicals, very wear-resistant, and easy to thermoform without pre-drying.
PET-G is more impact-resistant than acrylic, but less impact-resistant than polycarbonate. It is easy to machine with cutting tools such as drills, routers, and saws. Polishing is more difficult than with acrylic, but PET-G is exceptionally easy to thermoform and is therefore widely used for protective covers and trays; from mechanical components to displays.
The material can be processed by Plano Plastics as desired. We are happy to use our knowledge to think along with you and ultimately achieve a perfect end result.

Frequently asked questions about this material
What is the difference between PET-G, acrylic, and polycarbonate?
PET-G has a higher impact resistance than acrylic, but a lower impact resistance than polycarbonate. PET-G is exceptionally easy to thermoform without pre-drying; acrylic is easier to polish. In terms of price, PET-G falls between the two.
Is PET-G suitable for outdoor use?
As standard, we supply non-UV PET-G, intended for indoor use. UV-stabilized PET-G for outdoor applications is available upon request.
Can PET-G be thermoformed?
Yes, excellent. PET-G can be thermally deformed without pre-drying and is therefore widely used for protective covers and bins.
Which formats are available from stock?
Clear: 2050 × 1250 mm in 1 and 1.5 mm and 3050 × 2050 mm in 2 to 10 mm. Opal: 3050 × 2050 mm in 3 and 4 mm. Custom colors, thicknesses, and sizes upon request.
Is PET-G resistant to chemicals?
Yes, PET-G is resistant to various chemicals and is very wear-resistant. This makes it more suitable for intensive use than acrylic.
